Christians Against Poverty

The Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Ashby de la Zouch Centre is coordinated by a management board. The CAP Board is made up of our Centre Managers, Fundraising Coordinator, Treasurer, Secretary and Chair. The Board works under the authority of, and reports to, Holy Trinity Parochial Church Council.

  • Chair: Tim Phillips
  • Treasurer: Stephen Adshead
  • CAP Ashby Services Director: Katie Johnson
  • CAP Debt Help Centre Manager: Suzanne Adamson
  • CAP Money Course Manager: Geoff Bull
  • CAP Release Groups Manager: Lynda Flower

The work of CAP in this area started with The CAP Money Course, a three week DVD based course, supported by trained coaches. The CAP Money Courses and Coaches are coordinated by Geoff Bull.

In the Autumn of 2010 we opened a CAP Debt Help Centre providing award winning debt counselling. CAP is distinctive for offering help and emotional support to clients in their homes. We currently have our Centre Manager Suzanne Adamson paid for two days a week, potentially taking on up to 24 new client households per year.

In April of 2013 a CAP Job Club opened at Holy Trinity on Thursday mornings at Holy Trinity, lead by Steve Clowes, and supported by Alison Hayes, Gerri Abbot and Steve Porter (and others). Although the Job Club is no longer running, the regular members continue to meet at a cafe-style drop in, which also offers support with job-seeking, form-filling and signposting. This is currently managed by Suzanne Adamson.

In the January of 2017 we began offering CAP Release Groups under the leadeship of Lynda Flower, which are now known as Fresh Start.
